This Halloween zombie activity uses static electricity to raise the dead! This Halloween STEAM is super easy and eerily fun! With only a few supplies needed, your walking dead will be up and moving in no time!
This Halloween STEAM activity is so much fun and you can make all sorts of different shapes to test! My toddlers hair was the best one to charge up our balloon, so it was a true test of my mothering skills to wrangle all four kiddos while rubbing a balloon on a toddler and trying to take pictures of our static electricity zombie!
Thank goodness for having a 10yr old who loves to snuggle her baby brother!

Static Electricity Zombie STEAM Activity
Cut out your Zombie Template and use your zombie to trace on tissue paper. I just held up my tissue paper to my computer screen and traced my zombie in pencil.
Then, I used a permanent marker over the pencil to reveal my zombie!
Blow up your balloon and then rub your balloon on your head against your hair.
Make sure your zombie is lying flat on the table. Then, gently lower your balloon above your zombie.
Watch out for zombies crossing!
The static electricity will raise your zombie from the dead your board toward the balloon. Make sure to hold your balloon at a distance.
If your balloon is too close, it might stick. Just peel your zombie off your balloon and try again. You will probably need to rub your head several times throughout the activity.
Pro Tip: We’ve done this activity a few more times since the original post. The best tip is to use tape to secure the end of the tissue paper to your surface. This will prevent your zombie from sticking to the balloon too much!
The Science Behind Your Walking Zombie
Static electricity is caused by an imbalance of positive and negative charges. When you rub the balloon against your hair, you create a negative charge that builds on the balloon.
The tissue paper responds to the negative charge as the balloon gets closer, which makes the paper appear to walk.

We Put the Boo in KaBOOm with this STEAM Activity
We set out to use items around the house to observe how a chemical reaction produces a new substance. Just kidding, we set out to make something EXPLODE.
To do that, we sat down and learned all about acids, bases, and chemical reactions and applied what we knew to our daily lives. I bored the kids with chemical equations and talked their ears off until surely they thought we weren’t doing anything exciting. Then, things went kaBOOm and they were thrilled!

It’s October and that means a ton of candy is coming to a household near you in the very near future! We don’t let the kids eat all of their candy. We pick at it and they eat a few pieces here and there, but let’s be real, there are some candies that no one really likes to eat.
