Easy Pokemon Family Halloween Costumes

Find out how we made Pokemon family Halloween costumes for our then family of five!

We love playing Pokemon Go at our house! Our Pokemon family Halloween costumes were super easy to make and turned out pretty cute.

You don’t need a sewing machine for any of these. I only ended up sewing 1 piece of 1 costume. That was a welcomed surprise! I’m usually up to my eyeballs in fabric and thread each year for our DIY family halloween costumes.

DIY POKEMON FAMILY HALLOWEEN COSTUMES

CHARACTERS: POKEMON TRAINERS WITH PIKACHU, NINETALES, AND JIGGLYPUFF

Pokemon Go was released during Summer 2016 and we were immediately hooked!

We still Pokemon hunt almost every day in the summer because it’s great exercise and the kids will literally walk for miles and miles just to hatch a Pokemon egg.

I love it because it helps me shed some baby weight!! Our Pokemon costumes were pieced together from a mix of handmade and store purchased items because it was a super busy time at this Momma’s work!

How to Make Pokemon Trainer Costumes

Our Pokemon Trainer outfits were a mix of athletic apparel that matched our Pokemon Go avatars.

I actually found a Pokemon Trainer shirt at Target and then I added some black running pants and a Nike zip up shirt to represent my Team Mystic (blue).

I also ordered this funky wig from Amazon and paired it with a cute little headband from Target. Travis drew a Pokemon ball on his hat and dressed to represent Team Valor (red).

How to Make a Pokemon Ninetales Costume

To make our Ninetales costume, we were inspired by a browse through Pinterest.

Charlotte’s costume started with Footed Pajamas with a hood that I purchased online (Thea’s too) and I spent two weeks unravelling yarn and brushing it with a pet brush in order to create nine white & brown distressed tails for “Ninetales”.

It was extreme and the very first costume I worked on. I turned to Pinterest to find some tutorials on how to make a realistic tail from yarn and found a great DIY Wolf Tail Tutorial from iSave A to Z. The tutorial shows you how to make a really cool keychain.

The only thing I did differently was secure the tails around elastic that I measured for Charlotte’s waist. I had to make 9 tails for Charlotte’s costume.

I was immediately regretting my decision after just one, but it turned out so cool that I’m super glad that I saw it through. In hindsight, it actually wasn’t as bad as I had thought.

I was just stressing over not having much time to get the other costumes done due to my crazy work schedule.

I used white fleece fabric to sew the head piece that I secured to the hood of her footed pajamas and a belt that covered the elastic band.

Then, I decorated the front of the outfit with rhinestones because she wanted it to be fancy of course. Charlotte wore boots over her footed pjs and she was ready to brave a cold Halloween night in Wisconsin.

She also wore a hot pink wig for half the night with her costume because thats what 4 year olds do.

How to Make a Pokemon Pikachu Costume

Thea, six months old at the time, was Pikachu. The inspiration for her outfit came from this Adorable Pikachu Baby and Ash Costume on Coolest Homemade Costumes.

I started with yellow footed pajamas. The footed pjs were great because they kept the kiddos super duper warm. I waited until the last minute to make her costume and sometimes life with a 6-month old is pretty unpredictable.

I didn’t finish. She didn’t mind. She slept cozy in her footed pajamas bundled up in her stroller. My plans were to make a Pokeball blanket to wrap her in because it would have been so darn cute to have “caught” her in a Pokeball. Gotta catch them all right!?

How to Make a Pokemon Jigglypuff Costume

Peyton loves Jigglypuff because she is a little songbird herself. Jigglypuff is a very round, short character that is pretty much just pink. We were inspired by this image submitted to Pinterest.

To make Jigglypuff, we bought a large pink women’s night gown that I decorated with musical notes made from rhinestones.

I then used blue satin fabric (left over from our Elsa costume!) and tied it into a large bow. We fluffed the dress underneath the bow with a large tulle skirt that she had from dance class.

To complete the Jigglypuff look, we bought a light pink wig and a Jigglypuff hat.
